I’m Katie Tomzynski!
Bird observer, inspiration investigator, poetry writer.
I am a little poet and I live in San Francisco, California. I grew up in Los Angeles, near Griffith Park, and in Rancho Cucamonga; I was raised by a Polish microbiologist, a Gemini from New Jersey, and both my Catholic grandmothers. When I was ten and read Harriet the Spy, I found the name for what I wanted to be. A writer. A year later I started writing in a journal almost nightly, recording the details of my day. A couple years after that I began keeping an additional notebook, solely for poetry.
In high school I found the Beat writers and found a poetry godfather in Allen Ginsberg. I was inspired to move to San Francisco, to write poetry all the time. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University and for many years I worked in a bookstore, amassing a small book horde.
It’s been ten years since I moved to San Francisco. I started keeping that first notebook seventeen years ago. I still keep two notebooks, one for everyday entries, mundane daily notes, and the other for things more lyrical and leapy.
This is a collection of my work past and present, an extension of my journals, to share with you the wonderful and peculiar things that come through my windows, that knock on the door of my imagination.
